Gemtree Property Launches Green Patch with Port Neill Development

07/03/2011

Local developer, Gemtree Property has announced the introduction of its new environmental sustainability program, Green Patch, in conjuction with new land development, The Rise @ Port Neill. The Green Patch stamp demonstrates the developer’s commitment to the community through the inclusion of one or more sustainable elements in each of its projects.

Gemtree Property’s Managing Director Simon Cross says, “Incorporating sustainable elements into each of our projects stems from our vision to create living precincts that leave a legacy for future generations and give something back to the communities that we operate in.”

Dictated by the individual needs of each development, a Green Patch may include initiatives such as: storm water recycling, storm water management, waste reduction, wetland development, native vegetation preservation and enhancement, indigenous revegetation, local species revegetation and planting programs, signature landscape reserves, upgrade of existing community facilities, community bicycle or walking tracks and commitment to public art, interpretive sculptures and community involvement.

One of the first developments to receive a Green Patch and benefit from Gemtree’s commitment to sustainability is the soon to be released The Rise @ Port Neill, on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.

In a bid to preserve the native vegetation and rare flora and fauna found in the region, the development will centre around a Heritage Listed Reserve created and maintained by Gemtree Property. Managing Director, Simon Cross said that following a study* commissioned by the property group it became clear that this piece of pristine coastline offered more than just sweeping views and unspoiled beaches.

“Through a comprehensive site survey we’ve discovered that the property contains a high level of diversty of plant species, with one section containing 75 native species which is double that of the species diversity recorded in the area. It also includes some rare plant species, Melaleuca uncinata shrubland is rated as regionally threatened, and is an important wildlife habitat,” said Mr Cross.

“As a result we are undertaking an extensive calendar of works, including the removal of hard rubbish, earth works, weed control, fox and cat control, seed collection, transplanting species from other areas of the property and revegetation, in a hope to restore a significant piece of land back to its natural state and as a result encourage fauna of particular conservation significance back to the area.”

Gemtree Property is an Adelaide-based property development company committed to creating quality market led residential communities and living precincts.
